Bring on the 3rd Generation of Solar

OPV (Organic Photovoltaic) is Emerging as New Way to Add to Solar Performance

APAC TEAM is a group of veteran sales guys based in Singapore with successful sales experience all over Asia. Let APAC TEAM (www.apac-team.com) be “Your A-TEAM in ASIA.”

APAC TEAM is excited to recently go to work for SUNEW, the leading producers of OPV solar solutions in the world. We have all heard the solar story and have seen our share of rooftop solar panels and solar farms but OPV was something new to us. The OPV story is quite interesting….

OPV is much “cleaner” to produce than traditional silicon solar panels (generation 1) and thin film solar (generation 2), so users will start from a neutral carbon footprint. It is also very flexible as it is printed on film and can adhere to most any material. Being tough and resistant to cracking it can also be used in applications that traditional solar panels cannot. While transparent, OPV can also offer reflective capabilities to skylights and glass building exteriors.

Look forward to seeing old and new buildings increase their solar power output while also adding reflective capabilities. You will also see OPV show up in the mobility area as it can handle the vibration associated with vehicles and generate much needed electrical power. EV’s could use a trickle charge when idle to keep their batteries ready to go and IoT devices will require power even when the vehicle is not on and in motion. OPV can also generate power from artificial light so consider the potential for indoor applications where some devices could be taken “off grid.”

As the digital world is massively increasing the number of devices that need power and the world community is concerned with climate change, every bit of clean energy will make a difference. OPV will be part of this mix as a “flexible” option.
